Around the Lower Durance valley

The Basses Gorges du Verdon

Certainly less dramatic than the Verdon’s Grand Canyon, the Basses Gorges du Verdon (Lower Verdon Gorge) offers wild and beautiful landscapes, as well ; and it is quite easier to access.
This splendid trail, running along the river thanks to footbridges and passages carved in the rock, leads to the Chapel of Sainte-Maxime that stands up on a rocky spur overlooking the gorge. All along the route, you can enjoy a lot of superb views over the emerald waters of the river.
A really lovely walk in the heart of Haute Provence.

Walking from one lake to the other
in Cézanne’s footsteps

Located halfway between the city of Aix-en-Provence and Montagne Sainte Victoire, this 3 hour walk allows you to enjoy beautiful views of the lakes Zola and Bimont. From the last one, the hiking route follows the bottom of the beautiful gorges downstream through a mixed vegetation of pinegrove and “garrigue”, this low scrubland so typical of Provence. On your way back, you will be walking with the imposing mountain located about 2 miles east. The lack of shade along the trails makes the hike a perfect one on cool, sunny days of spring, autumn and even winter.

Gorges de Régalon

Starting from the Durance valley, this hike first takes you up to the foothills of the Petit Luberon mountain. You will walk accross an open landscape, very stony, where sheep herding has been practised for millennia. Before the slope becomes too steep, you will be on your way down a narrow and dry valley. In the final part of your descent, you will roam through the scenery of a spectacular canyon, ever narrower, and very special for its luxuriant vegetation: the Gorges de Régalon. In places, the walls rise 250 feet above the path and somewhere else, the distance that separates the two rocks in between the water made its way is barely one meter!
