In Camargue from Les Saintes-Maries de la Mer
The Camargue, France’s major wetland delta, is protected under the Camargue Regional Nature Park. Starting from Les Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, a little town located between the Mediterranean and large lagoons, at the heart of this unique area, you walk during this hike with your local guide on the dyke called « Digue à la Mer ». The fauna here is of exceptional variety and if you are interested in birdwatching, you will feel fulfilled : 400 species live here. This bird population changes according to the season thanks to the migratory one, coming in winter from Siberia, Northwest Russia and Finland. On our way back to the town, you make a wide detour through the marshes of « Étang des Impériaux ».
